ABOUT THE MAUI FARM
MISSION
Our mission is to provide long-term care and supportive services for troubled youth and their families,
while nurturing their growth and development to become responsible, contributing members of the community.
We provide residential services in an "`Ohana Model" farm-based
family style environment.
PHILOSOPHY
We believe that the child's home environment has the greatest impact on the
child's attitude, motivation and success in realizing his/her potential. We
believe that farm life, which includes the family, nurtures the individual's
awareness of the relationship between one's self and the natural environment in
which he or she lives. We believe in natural law and respect it. "Hi'i poi i ka
aina aloha. E malama pono i ka aina mai ke ola," is interpreted to mean cherish
the beloved land. Take good care of the land, it grants you life. This awareness
present the realization of our role as stewards of the land, ocean, plants and
animals. In realizing and acting upon this responsibility, the individual
improves their mind, heart and body, thus creating a sense of balance and
harmony within the self can then be extended into our relationship with others.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES
The Maui Farm's philosophy and guiding principles
are used as the foundation for the development and delivery of our programs and
services. Our guiding principles are:
-
Family Style Environment:
Youth and families are provided a safe, structured, consistent, caring and nurturing
home environment in which to learn the basic functions in a healthy family.
-
Experiential Approach: Activities and "hands on" experiences
incorporated into all aspects of the program are an important methodology
for helping youth and families develop healthy attitudes, values and skills,
and to attain goals and outcomes.
-
Commitment to a Continuum of
Care: Working in collaboration with our partners, the services offered
together create a circle of support that nurtures and guides individuals and
families in their process of healing, while helping them to transition to community-based housing and self-sufficiency.
-
Cultural Competency:
Services that incorporate a holistic approach to healing the mind, heart and
body, and are delivered by culturally sensitive and competent
individuals, are appropriate and effective for the youth and families we
serve.
