Experiential Activities Program
"Hi'i poi i ka aina
aloha. E malama pono i ka aina
mai ke ola"
Cherish the beloved land; take good care of the
land, it grants you life.
There are different world views of how we define our Self and in those views
are a multitude of perceptions about the mind and human nature. The Maui Farm
utilizes a Horticultural Therapy model that is founded on Universal Principles,
natural laws that respect worldwide cultural values, beliefs and practices that
also include western and eastern theories.

The Maui Farm's horticultural therapy practices a holistic model that recognizes the
spiritual, cultural, educational, social, cognitive/emotional, vocational and
physical needs of the individual. Consider the usefulness of what plants and the natural
world have to teach us about natural cycles that give meaning and purpose to our
lives. Ponder the fact that science has concluded that the human body and plants
are made out of the same substance and when broken down to its protein find pure
light energy exists! There is a connection happening between people and plants!
Nature offers us a myriad of metaphors that helps us understand our own ability
to change, heal and grow to our full capacity.
The therapeutic farm environment is approximately 2 acres that includes crop fields,
gardens, farm animals and pens, a nursery, a training hale (house), taro patch,
and recreational area for the little children to play in.
In addition to serving Family
Strengthening Program and Independent Living Program participants, this program
currently serves Maui Job Corps students from the Marshallese Islands who are
preparing to transition to other Job Corps centers through out the United
States. The Maui Farm is in the process of expanding the program to serve other at-risk groups
from our community.
